WESTLAND - The underdog Mustangs went into the Catholic League Championship tournament at Oak Lanes with nothing to lose and put a scare into eventual champion, Mercy High School.
Faustina Husaynu (153-126-136) led all Marian bowlers with all Marian bowlers with a 415 series and a 3rd place overall individual finish. Tori Raczkowski (108-100-135--343), Emily Fanning (112-96-123--331) and Amani Ahmad (82-137-89--308) were 9th, 10th and 12th, respectively in the individual standings.
Marian finished with a three-game total pinfall of 1795 in the qualifying block to enter bracket play seeded third, just ahead of Regina (1785). League power Divine Child (2154) qualified in the top spot while Mercy (2068) was seeded second.
In bracket play, Marian shocked the Marlins with a 159-130 victory, but the Mustangs couldn't maintain the momentum, losing 163-136 and 158-124 to fall in the championship semifinals.
Divine Child defeated Regina 2-0 to advance to the Finals where Mercy shocked the regular season champs, winning 2-0 (135-124, 157-132) to lay claim to the 2022 Bishop Division Tournament title.
The Mustangs will return to Oak Lanes for MHSAA Team Regionals on Friday, February 25 at 10am.
